Songimvelo Game Reserve

Songimvelo is the largest provincial reserve in Mpumalanga, on the Eswatini border in the Barberton mountains, stretching from grassland on the escarpment down to Lowveld valleys along the Komati River. It is a wilderness reserve with elephant, white rhino, buffalo, giraffe and a growing predator population, and it is part of the Barberton Makhonjwa World Heritage landscape of ancient rocks. Facilities are limited and access is by gravel road, which keeps it very quiet. It suits hikers and people who want the mountains rather than the lodge experience.
