About Royal Natal National Park

Royal Natal is the northern Drakensberg's showpiece, a reserve within the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg World Heritage Site, built around the Amphitheatre, a five-kilometre wall of rock rising 1,000 metres above the Tugela valley. The Tugela Falls drop from its rim in a series of leaps that make them, by most measures, the second-highest waterfall in the world. It is a hiking park: the Tugela Gorge walk is the classic day, the Sentinel chain ladders reach the summit plateau, and the Thendele camp sits in the valley with the wall filling the view. It is malaria-free and about four hours from Johannesburg or Durban.
