Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve

The Blyde River Canyon is a red sandstone gorge on the Mpumalanga escarpment, usually described as the third largest canyon in the world and certainly one of the greenest. The Panorama Route strings its viewpoints together: God's Window, the Three Rondavels, Bourke's Luck Potholes, and the dam far below. The reserve protects the canyon's forest, grassland and cliffs, home to all five South African primates and a strong population of raptors. It is the natural stopover between Johannesburg and the Kruger gates, with Graskop and Hoedspruit at either end and hiking, boat trips on the dam and a lot of photography in between.
