About Tswalu Kalahari Reserve
Tswalu is the largest private reserve in South Africa, about 114,000 hectares of southern Kalahari in the Northern Cape near Kuruman, owned by the Oppenheimer family and run as a conservation project with a single lodge. It is not a Big Five reserve, and it does not try to be: the draws are black-maned lions, cheetah, habituated meerkats, pangolin and aardvark, and the space. It is malaria-free, reached by private flight from Johannesburg or Cape Town, and it runs a research foundation whose work guests can join.
