About Kwandwe Private Game Reserve
Kwandwe is a Big Five reserve on the Great Fish River in the Eastern Cape, about 90 minutes from Gqeberha, rebuilt from farmland into 22,000 hectares of thicket and river valley in the late 1990s. It is malaria-free, exclusive, with a handful of lodges and villas and no self-drive, and it has one of the stronger black rhino populations in private hands. Elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard and cheetah are all present. The reserve's foundation runs community and conservation work in the surrounding district, and the Fish River valley's frontier history gives the landscape a story most reserves lack.
