About this route
Route 62 is one of South Africa's great road trips, a journey through wine country, mountain passes and Klein Karoo hospitality. Stretching some 850 kilometres between Cape Town and Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), it is often called the world's longest wine route, threading through the Breede River Valley and into the semi-arid Klein Karoo before reaching the coast. Built in the 1920s to link small farming communities with the harbour towns, it predates the modern N2 highway and keeps its unhurried, small-town character.
