About this route
The Cape gives birders two things nowhere else in the country can: fynbos endemics you will not find north of the mountains, and one of the great pelagic trips of the world an hour off Simon's Town. This route starts in Cape Town for Cape Sugarbird, Orange-breasted Sunbird and the boats, crosses to Swellendam under the Langeberg for Bontebok National Park and the Marloth forest margins, then climbs into the drier Karoo edge at Montagu and Calitzdorp, where Protea Canary, Karoo Prinia and Verreaux's Eagle replace the coastal list. Hosts along the way carry the BirdLife Affiliated badge and understand a breakfast before sunrise.
