About Tsavo East National Park
Tsavo East is one of the largest national parks in the world, a flat, red-earth wilderness in south-eastern Kenya famous for its red-dusted elephants, its man-eating lions of the railway years, and the Galana River and Lugard Falls. Elephant herds are the main sight, with lion, cheetah and buffalo on the plains and the Yatta plateau, one of the longest lava flows in the world, along the northern edge. It is hot and dry, reached by road from Mombasa or Voi, and popular as a two- or three-day safari from the coast. It is a malaria area.
