About Skeleton Coast National Park
The Skeleton Coast is Namibia's northern shore, 500 kilometres of fog, dunes and wreck-strewn beach between the Ugab River and the Kunene, where the cold Benguela current meets the desert. The southern section is open to self-drive as far as Terrace Bay, with the seal colony at Cape Cross just outside the park; the northern wilderness is reserved for fly-in camps and is where desert elephant, lion and brown hyena work the river mouths. It is one of the emptiest coasts in the world, cold and windy in summer when the interior is hottest, and malaria-free.
