About Okavango Delta
The Okavango is the largest inland delta in the world, a fan of channels, lagoons and islands where the Okavango River spreads into the Kalahari sand and evaporates, and a World Heritage Site. The flood arrives from Angola in the dry season, so the water is highest between about June and September, which is also the best game viewing: elephant, buffalo, lion, wild dog, red lechwe and sitatunga in the reeds, and a bird list above 400. Most of the delta is private concessions reached by light aircraft from Maun, with mokoro trips, walking and night drives; Moremi is the road-accessible section. It is a malaria area.
