About Namib-Naukluft National Park
Namib-Naukluft is one of the largest parks in the world, covering the central Namib desert from the Naukluft mountains to the coast, and its most famous corner is Sossusvlei: the red dunes, some over 300 metres high, the white clay pan of Deadvlei with its dead camelthorn trees, and Sesriem canyon at the gate. Dune 45 and Big Daddy are the climbs, done at dawn before the heat. The Naukluft section has hiking trails and mountain zebra; the coast has Sandwich Harbour's lagoon and its flamingos. Stays are at Sesriem and the lodges on the park edge, and the season is April to October. It is malaria-free.
