About Mikumi National Park
Mikumi is the accessible park of southern Tanzania, bisected by the Dar es Salaam to Iringa highway about four hours from the city, with the Mkata floodplain as its heart: open grassland with elephant, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, lion and large herds of impala and wildebeest, often compared to a small Serengeti. It is the usual first stop on the southern circuit before Ruaha or Nyerere, and it works as a short safari from Dar for those without time for the north. Lodges and campsites are inside and beside the park, and it is a malaria area.
