Lake Nakuru National Park

Lake Nakuru is a Rift Valley soda lake in central Kenya, once famous for a million flamingos along its shores; numbers now vary from year to year with the lake's level and salinity, and the great gatherings have moved between Nakuru, Bogoria and Natron. It remains one of Kenya's best rhino sanctuaries, with both black and white rhino in a fenced park, plus Rothschild's giraffe, lion, leopard and a bird list above 400 species. It is small, tarred and easy, about three hours from Nairobi, and the lodges sit on the ridge above the lake.
