About Katavi National Park
Katavi is the wild, remote park of western Tanzania, a floodplain of the Katuma River that shrinks in the dry season into a few pools crammed with hippo and crocodile, with buffalo herds in the thousands and lion on the plains. Almost nobody goes: it receives a tiny fraction of the Serengeti's visitors, has three or four camps, and is reached by charter flight or a very long drive. The dry season from about June to October is the only practical time, and it is a malaria area. It pairs with Mahale on the lake for a western circuit.
