About Kasanka National Park
Kasanka is a small park in northern Zambia, privately managed under a trust, and the site of the largest mammal migration on earth by numbers: around ten million straw-coloured fruit bats arrive in a patch of swamp forest each year between about late October and December, filling the sky at dawn and dusk. Outside bat season it is a quiet park of miombo, wetland and the shy sitatunga antelope, watched from a tree hide at first light. It is reached by road from Lusaka in about six hours, with a lodge and a campsite, and it is a malaria area.
