Kafue National Park

Kafue is Zambia's largest and oldest park, about 22,000 square kilometres of miombo, rivers and the Busanga plains in the west of the country, and one of the least crowded big parks in Africa. The Busanga floodplain in the north is the highlight from about July to October, when lion, cheetah and huge herds of red lechwe gather on the drying grass and balloon safaris run over it; the Kafue River and its lakes in the south have boat safaris and hippo. It is reached by road from Lusaka in a few hours to the eastern edge, or by air to the camps, and it is a malaria area.
