About Hlane Royal National Park
Hlane is Eswatini's largest protected area, in the Lubombo lowveld about an hour from Mbabane, held in trust for the king and run by Big Game Parks. It holds lion, elephant, white rhino and leopard in ancient hardwood bushveld, and rhino sightings on foot with a guide are its particular strength. Accommodation is simple: self-catering cottages and a camp by a waterhole with no electricity. It is malaria-low and a straightforward add-on to a Kruger or KwaZulu-Natal trip, with the Swazi cultural sites of the Ezulwini valley an hour away.
