About Gonarezhou National Park
Gonarezhou, "the place of elephants", is Zimbabwe's second-largest park, in the south-east corner of the country on the Mozambique border, and part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park with Kruger. Its landmark is the Chilojo Cliffs, red sandstone walls above the Runde River, and its wildlife has recovered strongly under the Gonarezhou Conservation Trust, with large elephant herds, lion, wild dog, and black rhino returned in 2021. It is a self-drive and camping park with a few lodges, wild and uncrowded, reached by long gravel roads from Chiredzi, and it is a malaria area best visited from May to October.
