About Gombe Stream National Park
Gombe is the smallest of Tanzania's national parks, a strip of forested hills on the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika where Jane Goodall began studying chimpanzees in 1960, the longest-running study of wild animals in the world. Chimpanzee tracking on foot with a guide is the reason to come, with red colobus, olive baboons and a beach on the clear lake as the rest of the day. It is reached by boat from Kigoma, a few hours north, and it is a malaria area. The dry season from about June to October has the easiest walking and the clearest lake.
