Chobe is the Botswana park with the largest elephant population in Africa, tens of thousands of animals that crowd the Chobe River in the dry season from roughly May to October. The riverfront near Kasane is the accessible part, with boat safaris at sunset and game drives along the water; Savuti and the Linyanti marshes in the west are wilder and reached by 4x4 or air. Lion, leopard, buffalo and wild dog are present, and the birding on the river is exceptional. Kasane is an hour from Victoria Falls, which makes Chobe the easiest add-on to a Falls trip. It is a malaria area.
