About this place
The Hide is a family-owned tented camp on a private concession inside Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe's largest park, a little over an hour's game drive from Main Camp. Ten tents run in a line along the edge of a busy waterhole, and the thatched A-frame at the centre of camp holds the dining room and lounge downstairs, with a private dining area and viewing deck above.
The camp is known for its underground hide: a tunnel from the main area, past an underground wine cellar, to a bunker at eye level with the animals drinking at the pan. In the dry months elephants come down to the water through the day, and the pan can be watched from the pool deck, the fire pit and the front of every tent.
Up to four activities are offered each day: morning and afternoon game drives, guided walks, night drives with a spotlight, and hide sits around the pan. Walking safaris are for guests aged 16 and over. The Dove's Nest, a treehouse five minutes' drive from camp, is a complimentary sleep-out for two adults and should be booked in advance.
For families and small groups there are two exclusive-use options, each with its own guide, vehicle, dining and pool. Tom's Little Hide is a four-bedroom safari house just along from the main camp, built in tribute to Tom Preston. The Private Hide uses four of the camp's tents with a separate lounge, dining and pool deck at the western end of camp. Children of any age are welcome at both; the main camp takes children from 10.
Stays are fully inclusive of meals and snacks, all drinks, laundry, wifi and every activity. In 2015 The Hide was one of the Hwange operators that founded the Conservation and Wildlife Fund, and it supports the communities on the park boundary through The Hide Community Trust.

Eight of the camp's ten tents are deluxe tents with a double or twin beds, set in a line along the edge of the waterhole. Each has an en-suite bathroom with an indoor and or outdoor bath and shower (the layout varies from tent to tent), a veranda facing the pan, fans and mosquito proofing. Tents 5 and 10 are the honeymoon tents. Morning tea or coffee is brought to the tent. A child aged 10 to 12 may share with two adults, one child per tent; the main camp does not take children under 10.

Tents 6 and 7 are the camp's large family tents, taking two adults and two children in full-size beds, with an indoor bath, an outdoor shower and hot water all day. They sit at the western end of the line of tents, towards The Private Hide, and are also used when The Private Hide is booked. The main camp takes children from 10, and from 13 children pay the adult rate.

The Private Hide is an exclusive-use option at the western end of camp, with its own lounge, dining area, fire pit and pool deck looking over the pan, and a private guide and vehicle. Guests sleep in the camp's Tents 7, 6, 5 and 4 depending on numbers; Tents 7 and 6 are family tents that take two adults and two children each. It suits six adults and up to four children, or eight adults using all four tents. A minimum of two full-paying adults applies. Children of any age are welcome, and under-5s stay free.

Tom's Little Hide is a private safari house just along from the main camp, booked for exclusive use. Four large en-suite bedrooms overlook the waterhole, each with a bath, inside and outside showers and his-and-hers basins, furnished in Zimbabwean teak. Rooms 3 and 4 have been rebuilt, and rooms 1 and 2 can each take one child on a sleeper couch. The house has its own lounge, dining, plunge pool, private guide and vehicle. It suits six adults and up to four children, and can take eight adults. A minimum of four full-paying adults applies. Children of any age are welcome, and under-5s stay free.
