Sala's Camp first welcomed guests in 2004 and was the camp that started The Safari Collection. It sits on the quiet, tree lined banks of the Sand River in the southern Masai Mara, close to the Tanzanian border and looking straight into the Serengeti, which puts it in the front row when the herds cross into Kenya between July and October.

Seven tents sleep a maximum of eighteen guests: five double tents, the Keekorok Family Tent and the Forest Family Tent. All of them have private plunge pools, wooden decks, glass fronted views over the plains, en-suite bathrooms with separate bathtubs, hot showers and flushing loos. Electricity is solar powered with a standby generator. The camp was refurbished in 2016 and extended in 2018, but it keeps the under-canvas feel of the mobile camp the founders first pitched here.

Rates are fully inclusive of all meals and drinks including house wines, beers and spirits, game drives, bush meals and sundowners, transfers from Keekorok Airstrip, laundry, nature walks, bush volleyball and children's activities. Champagne, luxury spirits, balloon rides, massages, road transfers and the daily park and conservation fees are excluded.

Wildlife is plentiful year round and guests often complete a game drive without meeting another vehicle. The Sala's lion pride resides in the area and is regularly heard at night. Minimum stay two nights.

Keekorok Tent 1 and Forest Tents 4, 5, 6 and 7. Five double tents dotted along the riverbank with views over the plains and across to the Tanzanian hills. Private plunge pool, wooden deck, en-suite bathroom with separate bathtub, hot shower and flushing loo, glass fronted for the view. Double or twin beds, and an extra bed fits for a child aged 3 to 11. Guests in these tents share a game-drive vehicle with other guests; exclusive use of a vehicle can be booked in advance at extra cost. Priced per person sharing, fully inclusive. Minimum 2 nights.

Tent 2a/2b: two inter-connecting rooms, the largest space at Sala's Camp, with wilderness views, a large wooden deck with sunken seating and a private plunge pool. The published room rate covers up to 2 adults and 2 children sharing; 4 adults sharing and extra beds are priced separately. Minimum 2 nights.

Forest Family Tent with Pool

Tent 3: a spacious open-plan tent nestled amongst the trees, with double and twin beds separated by a small seating area and a dividing screen, sunken seating and a plunge pool overlooking the river. Because of the lack of privacy between the two sleeping areas this tent should be booked by families rather than two couples. Guests in the family tents have exclusive use of a game-drive vehicle. Minimum 2 nights.
